CHRISTMAS ON LAS OLAS 2007
Nearly 100,000 visitors packed Las Olas Boulevard on
Tuesday, November 27th to enjoy the 42nd annual Christmas on Las
Olas. The event featured musical performances by local choirs,
schools, musicians and bands on three performance stages.
The groups varied in size from just two to over 100. They filled the
boulevard with the familiar harmonies of
Christmas. Korbel California Champagne was the premier sponsor.
The night began with a cameo appearance by one of the world's most popular
precision dance companies, the Radio City
Rockettes who, clad in all green Christmas outfits,
announced the opening act on stage one, near the Cheesecake Factory: Walker
Elementary of Fort Lauderdale.
The Winterfest-sanctioned event was a collaboration between the Las Olas
Association, local schools, non profits, retailers, restaurants and local
government and raised money for Cooperative Feeding Program, Walker
Elementary School and Star Bright, Star Light Children's Foundation.
Starbuck's Snow Mountain was again the main attraction and the line of
children
waiting their turn to slide down the only ountain of
snow in South Florida did not
subside until the event finished at 10:00 p.m. Twelve tons of ice was
shipped in a truck from Georgia to create the snow. Mangos
Restaurant and Lounge coordinated many of the operational aspects of Snow
Mountain.
Santa Claus met children near Sue Gordon Bridal Salon. Photographs
were available for $5.00 and all proceeds benefited Star Bright, Star Light
Children's Foundation.
A giant movie screen featuring Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and
The Grinch
who Stole Christmas entertained us all next to Mangos Restaurant and Lounge.

Merchants created
imaginative and festive window displays using live models,
prompting some
visitors to stop and take photographs of their store fronts.
Dance Broward participated by showcasing dance performances
near Joe Picasso's. Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre decorated their
display with actual theatre props, Dickensian characters and managed an arts and crafts table where children
created hand-made Christmas ornaments.
In conjunction with Light Up Lauderdale, Brandano Displays erected a bright
and colorful variety of Christmas displays on several of the medians
that divide Las Olas Boulevard.
A Christmas on Las Olas VIP party, sponsored and hosted by the Riverside
Hotel was attended by over 200 guests, including a contingent from
Tangled Spider Design Group, executives from the Las Olas Company,
board members of The Las Olas Association, Premier Beverages, Korbel California
Champagne, Synergy Workplaces, Publix and many others. |
