Football

The Miami Dolphins are nearby, playing near the Broward/Dade county line at Dolphin Stadium. Stadium tours are available. Key Dolphins home dates for 2006: Buffalo Bills 09/17, Tenessee Titans 09/24, GReen Bay Packers 10/22, Kansas City Chiefs 11/12, Minnesota Vikings 11/19, Jacksonville Jaguars 12/03, New England Patriots 12/10 and New York Jets 12/25

Florida Atlantic University Football team ( the FAU Owls) play home games at Fort Lauderdale Lockhart Stadium. Key home dates for 2006 are games against Louisiana-Lafayette 10/18, Arkansas State 10/28, Troy St. 11/11. The big showdown against Florida International takes place at Pro-Player stadium 11/25.

The Fort Lauderdale Jaguars of the American Youth Football League play at the Floyd Hull Stadium and always welcome you to games.

Baseball

The 2003 World Series Champion Florida Marlins also play at Dolphin Stadium. The 2006 regular season is already underway, with games until October. Cheer on 'D-Train' Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera.

Fort Lauderdale also hosts the Baltimore Orioles Spring Training at Fort Lauderdale Stadium.

Basketball
The Miami Heat has a loyal following in Broward, and is currently led by NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal and Dwyane Wade. Heat games are a short distance away at the Miami Arena. Greater Fort Lauderdale also hosted the new ABA Florida Pitbulls team, which played the 2005/06 season at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise. 2006/07 details yet to be announced.

Hockey
The National Hockey League's Florida Panthers play at the new $212 million BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise.

Thoroughbred/harness racing
Gulfstream Race Track comes alive with thoroughbred horse racing during the winter. See future and past Kentucky Derby winners in action. This park, on the southern edge of Broward in Hallandale, has hosted the prestigious Breeders' Cup.

Greyhound racing
Hollywood Greyhound Track attracts top greyhounds nationwide. Attend matinees or evening races.

Jai-Alai
One of the best places in the world to see this lightning-paced, indoor game from the Basque region of Spain is at Dania Jai-Alai fronton, located just off US1 in Dania Beach.

Boating/sailing
Broward is the yachting capital of the world and for many years was the only American stopover of the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1989,1993 and 1997. The Whitbread is now known as the Volvo Ocean Race.

THe Fort Lauderdale Yacht Club plays host to the Southern Ocean Racing Conference (SORC), the Fort Lauderdale to Key West Race, Lauderdale Ocean Cup, Boomerang Regatta, Annual IOD Regatta, Olympic Midwinter Championship, Laser District Championship, Hospice Regatta, Commodore's Cup Regatta and the Laser Match Racing Regatta.

Fishing
From the Atlantic Ocean and the Everglades to thousands of lakes, canals and waterways, fishing is plentiful. Tournaments are held here, including the Pompano Beach Fishing Rodeo - this year taking place May 17-20 2006.

Golf
Broward plays host the PGA Tour (Honda Classic). Most golf events occur in winter and spring.

In-line Skate, Skateboard and BMX
Brian Piccolo Park is outdoors - with a proshop and a Skate Lite Pro skating surface

Bicycling
Broward's Brian Piccolo Park is home to the only warm-weather velodrome in the United States, welcoming amateur cyclists as well as in-line skaters.

Swimming/diving
Olympians, past and present, have trained at the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale. Several other world-class aquatic centers are available for public use - though our local facility, the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex is worthy of particular note to Las Olas visitors.
Rodeo
Davie hosts the Five Star Pro Rodeo Series and other championship rodeos at the Davie Rodeo Arena.

Olympic-style Track and Field
The Olympic-style competition of the Broward Summer Games each June serves as a qualifying event for the Sunshine State Games, the state's major amateur athletic festival.

Lacrosse/rugby
The Weston Warriors local Lacrosse Club play regularly at Tequestra Trace Park. In rugby, the Fort Lauderdale Knights have a full schedule of games, generally taking place on Sundays at Tradewinds Park on Sample Road.

Tennis

The Jimmy Evert Tennis Center (JETC), located in Fort Lauderdale’s Holiday Park, is known throughout the world as one of the nation’s finest public tennis facilities. Its rich and distinguished history includes everything from teaching children how to improve their serves and backhands to contributing to the development of tennis professionals such as Chris Evert and Jennifer Capriati.

From I-95:

Take the Broward Boulevard exit east to SE 3rd Avenue.

Make a right (south) onto SE 3rd Ave. and proceed to 2nd light. (Las Olas Blvd)
Make a left (east) onto Las Olas Blvd.

From US1:

Take Broward Boulevard west to SE 3rd Ave.

Turn left on SE 3rd and continue south to Las Olas Blvd (2nd light)

Turn left (east) onto Las Olas Blvd.
