Calling
All Artists!
Pelicans In Paradise -
coming to Las Olas Boulevard – Winter 2007
What exactly is Pelicans In Paradise?
Pelicans In Paradise is a public art exhibition that places larger-than-life
Pelicans on and around Las Olas Boulevard. Pelicans designed and created by
local, national and international artists and celebrities will enhance the
downtown landscape for the public to view and interact with. While the basic
pelican shape and design is the same, it will be the artists' adornment of
the Pelican that will make each one unique and interesting to see.

Pelicans In Paradise is made possible through individual and corporate
sponsorships that allow a broad cross-section of our community to contribute
to the great work of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Florida. The goal
of this initiative is to create a cultural attraction for tourists and
residents of South Florida.
Would you like to be one of the artists selected to use a pelican for your
artistic interpretation? The Las Olas Association is accepting inquiries
from artists who are interested in participating in this public art event.
Artists whose designs are selected for exhibition will be provided with a
larger than life pelican form and recognition in all of the marketing
initiatives and press releases for the event.
Artistic Designs
Artists may paint, transform and adorn the pelican as he or she wishes, but
the structural integrity of the pelican must not be compromised. Pelicans
may range from those that are simply painted or boasting elaborate,
intricate designs. Others may have mosaic tile and mirrors as well as
elaborate costumes built to compliment the pelicans shape. We will request
a preliminary drawing / sketch of your pelican for approval.
What is Make-A-Wish's mission?
The mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation ® of Southern Florida (and all
chapters) is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical
conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.
