Fort Lauderdale, Jan 22, 2016 – A film crew from China enjoyed a really sunny day on Las Olas, when they came to shoot a travel segment this month. According to Rita Wells, the Marketing Communications Manager from the Convention and Visitors Bureau, the CVB has started reaching out to the Chinese traveler in partnership with VISIT FLORIDA.
“Our vacation playbook was produced digitally in Mandarin for the first time this season,” Rita said. The Chinese production company was in town to shoot a 15-minute travel video for China’s version of YouTube called Tudou. The show,Quluxing, is a play on words meaning Go/Fun Travels. The tone is light and playful with humorous and personable hosts immersing themselves into the destination and sharing their authentic take on it. In popular Chinese fashion, the videos use animated graphics and popups to engage with viewers.
The series is hosted by Si Wen Jia, a talk show host and actress. She has made a career of hosting various shows spanning the entertainment, magic and culinary categories. Her funny, quirky personality has made her a favorite among the younger generation, and a recent marriage to another famous entertainer has made them a sweetheart couple beloved by fans. Her husband joined her on her Las Olas stroll.
Si Wen Jia is the winner of China’s 2012 TV Entertainment Award for Best Talk Show Host. She has 154,000 fans on Weibo. Most of the audience is concentrated in tier 1 cities such as Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Chengdu. The viewers are mostly highly educated with high incomes.
It was a fun day, where the celeb couple strolled Las Olas while the film crew captured them enjoying the world class Boulevard. They visited Maus & Hoffman, where they were intrigued with M&H’s special Cash Wrap… a sheet of real $1.00 bills from the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing that is popular with customers wanting to give a gift that’s wrapped in cash! They also learned that the luxury retailer has been on Las Olas for 75 years. The couples also visited Kilwins, where they both enjoyed some yummy ice cream in Kilwins hand made cones. At New River Fine Art (top picture) they viewed some of the Masters & Icons that were on display, including a Salvador Dali that was priced at $125,000. They had lunch at Caffe Europa, along with their film crew and Mallory Brooks From Visit Florida and Rita Wells. They also stopped in Ann’s Florist, where they explored the store with its vast array of antiques and collectibles and the new Flower Bar at Ann’s Florist, which recently opened serving espresso and cappuccino along with desserts.
It was a great day and bodes well for increasing visitors from China to come to Las Olas to dine, shop, invest in art and experience the magic of the Boulevard!
