FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (June 14, 2018) – Less than a year after the successful opening of the restaurant’s first location in Hallandale Beach, ETARU, a restaurant featuring contemporary Japanese Robatayaki cuisine will open its second South Florida restaurant on Thursday, June 21 at The Related Group’s brand new ultra-luxury rental, Icon Las Olas, in Fort Lauderdale. A highly-anticipated addition to Las Olas Boulevard’s vibrant restaurant scene, ETARU will offer dinner seven days a week, lunch Monday through Saturday and brunch on Sunday.
Brought to the United States by Rainer Becker, co-founder and creator of Zuma restaurants worldwide and ROKA London, ETARU’s menu revolves around the central Robata Grill; a concept which originated with the fisherman of Japan’s Northern coast who charcoal-grilled fish on their boats and shared with one another via outstretched oars.
Under the guidance of ROKA London and ETARU Group Executive Chef Hamish Brown, ETARU Las Olas’ kitchen will be helmed by Corporate Executive Chef Luca Spiga who has relocated to South Florida from ROKA London where he spent seven years honing his skills and developing his passion for Japanese cuisine. According to Brown, the new ETARU will share many menu items and the same level of gracious service, however, ETARU Las Olas will offer a different experience to diners than the Hallandale location.
Brown, who oversees both South Florida ETARU locations, says the energy and excitement of downtown Fort Lauderdale very much differentiates the Las Olas restaurant from the laidback beachy vibe in Hallandale. The location and design are all about city living and the brand looks forward to becoming a mainstay for local business lunches; for arts patrons seeking to dine before and after the theater and most importantly, as a neighborhood dining destination that is unique to Las Olas and the downtown culinary scene.
Open for dinner nightly and lunch Monday through Saturday, ETARU offers the perfect balance of raw and robata grilled dishes, notable for their unparalleled freshness, simplicity and great flavor pairings. Sashimi, maki rolls, salads and tataki, snacks and soups are all beautifully presented on specialty plateware, handmade and imported from Japan. Tokusen – special raw sashimi dishes – include plates like ROKA London’s signature Black Kampachi Sashimi ($16) with yuzu truffle dressing, which has been a hit among ETARU Hallandale diners; Wagyu Sushi ($19) with oscietra caviar, scallions and ginger; and Tuna Toro Tartare ($14) with wasabi ponzu dressing and rice crackers. ETARU will also offer a full sushi selection including nigiri. At the heart of the restaurant’s menu is Robatayaki dishes including Black Cod ($34) marinated in yuzu miso with pickled radish; ETARU’s signature Lamb Cutlets ($34) with Korean spices and sesame cucumber; Grilled Octopus ($18) with whipped tofu and pear salad; and Beef Short Rib ($45) with ginger and pickled onion.
Desserts offer a perfect South Florida ending to dinner with tropical fruits and light but bold flavors. Options include a Smoked Coconut and Passionfruit Parfait ($10) and Dark Chocolate and Green Tea Pudding ($10) with crunchy jivara and pear ice cream. Guests may also indulge in the famous and truly picture-worthy Dessert Platter ($14pp) which includes a selection of the most popular desserts.
Perfect for the quick during-work-hours lunch, ETARU Las Olas offers two $35 express lunch options including the Robata Express lunch and Sushi Express lunch. The Robata option includes White Miso Soup; Green beans, asparagus, spinach and cucumber with chili lime dressing; and a choice of Salmon Teriyaki, Pork Belly with hoisin sauce or Rice hot pot with Japanese mushrooms. The Sushi option includes White Miso Soup; Spinach Salad with sesame dressing and yamagobo; and a sushi selection of Yellowfin Tuna, Red Bream and Salmon Sashimi; Salmon Tartare, yuzu den miso with crispy nori; Avocado and Cucumber Maki with wasabi peas; or a 3-piece nigiri selection. A la carte options are also available during lunch.
ETARU’s beverage program features a variety of artisan libations including signature cocktails such as the Beyond the Sea ($12) with Grey Goose Vodka, lychee & kombu cordial and champagne; Rita Okinawa ($11) made with yuzu kosho Maestro Dobel Tequila, yellow chartreuse, lime and agave; Edamame Fizz ($12) with Bombay dry gin, edamame cordial, shiso, lime and sparkling wine; and a Las Olas specific addition, the Ola’s Way ($12) with Leblon cachaça, strega liqueur, pineapple, lime and purple shiso. A wide selection of Japanese sake by the glass or carafe, Japanese whiskeys, craft and Japanese beers, and wines by the glass and bottles are also available.
With its opening, ETARU will also launch a decadent Sunday Brunch at an unbeatable introductory rate of $55 per person. At brunch, guests are welcomed with a Seasonal Bellini, Bloody Mary or Matcha Mango iced tea upon arrival followed by free-flowing pours of Whispering Angel Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc, Primitivo Sasseo, or for an additional $20, Louis Roderer NV Champagne. Guests may then head to the robata counter for an array of hot and cold starters including seasonal sashimi, a selection of salads, hot starters from the kitchen, and many other selections. A choice of one main course is also included and guests may select from the robata menu with choices like Crispy Chicken with shiso waffle and maple syrup, Grilled Prawns with arima sancho and Skirt Steak with wasabi chimichurri. All brunch patrons also receive the signature ETARU dessert platter for the table.
Catering to the many businesses and revelers in downtown Fort Lauderdale, Happy Hour will be offered daily at ETARU Las Olas from 4PM until 7PM. The menu features $6 signature cocktails, $5 sake and wine and $3 Sapporo beers, as well as $4 bar snacks such as Beef, Ginger and Sesame Dumplings and Japanese Fried Chicken. Skewers ($5) include a Cobia Skewer with piri piri sauce and Sweetcorn Skewer with wasabi lime butter and shichimi among others.
At its essence, ETARU Las Olas will be a neighborhood restaurant that welcomes local diners as well as visitors with a critically acclaimed menu and vibe that embraces the South Florida scene. The new indoor-outdoor, multi-functional space was designed by Miami Beach’s Urban Robot Associates. The space is outfitted with natural touches of wood and pops of color mixed with industrial-chic design elements. An impressive tree-like structure will serve as the centerpiece of the restaurant alongside the central Robata grill, which will have an open concept, allowing guests to see the action of the kitchen. The tables are arranged in a way that assures there isn’t a bad seat in the house.
ETARU is located at Icon Las Olas at 500 East Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. ETARU will offer dinner seven days a week; lunch Monday through Saturday and brunch on Sunday. Valet and self-parking is available.
